The Vought Corsair was one of the most unusual but also most successful Navy aircraft of World War II. Feared by the Japanese opponent who gave her the nickname Whispering Death, she fought her way through the Pacific sky from 1943 to 1945 and achieved record-breaking successes: 2,140 opposing aircraft were destroyed with 189 own losses. The concentrated firepower of the Corsair consisted of six 12.7 mm Browning MGs. Its characteristic bent wings gave it a high level of recognition among the ground troops they called the Sweetheart of Okinawa. The F4U-1A was the first construction lot with major changes, top speed 671km / h.
