Baron Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen and his red Fokker triplane made history in the First World War. The Fokker Dr. I was introduced on the Western Front in June 1917 and was only approved by the General Staff after a long test phase and with the approval of flying ace Manfred von Richthofen. The Dr. I was the most manoeuvrable of all aircraft used and achieved high rates of climb. With the Oberusel radial engine (output 110 hp), the Dr. I had a top speed of 193 km / h and was able to climb to an altitude of 3000 m in 6 minutes. Two Spandau machine guns were installed in front of the pilot's cockpit. All pilots in the group around Richthofen flew red triplane. At the end of 1917, Dr. I withdrew from the Western Front, but the Red Baron continued to fly this type and scored a total of 80 kills before it was shot down in April 1918.
