The USS MISSOURI was chosen as the location for the surrender ceremony. General Douglas MacArthur presided over the Allied forces as commander in chief. After the deed of surrender was signed, a plaque was placed on the deck of the "Mighty Mo" with the following inscription: "This is the place where Japan's official deed of surrender to the Allies was signed on September 2, 1945, which led to the end of the Second World War".
