The nuclear powered Enterprise is the first aircraft carrier of its kind and is one of the largest ship objects ever built. This gigantic aircraft carrier was put into service on November 25, 1961. Eight water-cooled reactors generate a total output of 300,000 hp, with which the ship reaches an average speed of 35 knots. The water displacement is 75,700 tons and the flight deck is 76.8 meters wide. 414 officers and 4,260 crew members are on board on average. Since the Enterprise is independent of external supplies thanks to the nuclear drive, large fuel depots are available for the aircraft on board. The largest and most modern aircraft in the U.S. Navy can be deployed from the Enterprise.
